Short description:

Awaken to the captivating symphony of Amazonian birds in a luxurious glass-walled bungalow surrounded by untouched rainforest. Fall asleep in a wooden suite suspended above an incredible maze of waterways, deep within a million hectares of jungle. Stay facing the largest freshwater archipelago on the planet. These are just some of the possibilities for exploring the Amazon’s landscapes from the comfort of elegant lodges and jungle hotels.

The forest experience ranges from watching the sunrise and flocks of birds from a 50-meter-high observation tower, paddling through narrow creeks, walking among centuries-old trees to the soundtrack of howler monkeys, photographing pink river dolphins leaping in golden lakes, and visiting traditional communities to learn about their crafts, culture, and way of life.

Most lodges also offer nighttime excursions for wildlife observation under an incredibly starry sky. In addition to boats designed for safe and comfortable tours, the lodges provide high-standard accommodations and unique experiences—such as sipping wine in a cozy garden while waiting for a freshly caught fish to roast over the fire.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1 – Departure / Manaus
Board a flight to Manaus. Upon arrival at the airport, transfer to your selected hotel.

Day 2 – Manaus – Juma Lodge
Regular shared transfer departing between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. (time varies depending on the hotel). Transfer to the Ceasa Port and board a speedboat that crosses the “Meeting of the Waters” — where the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões run side by side without mixing — continuing to the village of Careiro. From there, take a ground transfer to another pier and board a speedboat to the lodge. The entire journey, alternating between boats and vehicles, takes approximately three hours. Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome drink made from local fruit and check into your accommodation. After lunch, take a canoe ride to explore and get acquainted with the surrounding region. Return to the lodge. After dinner, embark on a nighttime canoe ride to observe the nocturnal wildlife.

Meeting of the Waters – On the way to Juma Lodge, you’ll pass through the fascinating confluence where the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões meet but do not mix for many kilometers. You can feel the difference in temperature between the two rivers.

Canoe Tour – This introductory excursion takes place in a paddle canoe through the igarapés (narrow streams) and igapós (flooded forest, visible mainly during the high-water season). You may swim, spot pink river dolphins, and listen to the mysterious sounds of the rainforest.

Night Tour – At night, take a boat ride to observe caimans, frogs, and birds. The guide uses only a flashlight to spot animals in the Amazonian darkness, making this a thrilling experience. The nighttime sounds and starry sky add even more wonder to the adventure.

Days 3 & 4 – Juma Lodge

During your stay, the following excursions are included:

Sunrise on the Juma River – Witness the magical color changes of the Amazonian sky at dawn to the soundtrack of birdsong. Binoculars are available for birdwatching.

Rainforest Hike – On lightly explored trails, your native guide will teach you basic jungle survival techniques, discuss Amazonian wildlife, and identify edible and medicinal plants.

Piranha Fishing – Board a boat to try your luck catching piranhas and other regional fish. Fishing is easier during the dry season, as during the floods fish retreat into the igapós. Return to the lodge at sunset, often a spectacular sight.

Evening Talk – After dinner, your local guide will share stories about their life, riverside traditions, legends, and information about the local flora and fauna.

Jungle Walk with Barbecue – After a longer hike (with fewer stops), enjoy a delicious regional-style barbecue lunch prepared over an open fire. Hammocks will be set up for relaxation in the forest afterward.

Visit to a Local Home – Meet a caboclo (Amazonian resident) who will explain the use of medicinal plants and demonstrate traditional cassava flour production, the region’s main economic activity.

Observation Tower Visit – Enjoy breathtaking views from a 31-meter-high observation tower overlooking the Juma region. Learn about the lodge’s sustainable architecture and its solar energy system.

Day 5 – Juma Lodge – Manaus / Departure
After breakfast, transfer back to Manaus, arriving around 11:00 a.m. Then, transfer to the airport for your flight back home.

Daily tours are organized by Juma Lodge and may be adjusted according to the season, weather conditions, or other factors to ensure the best experience.

Regular departures to Juma are available at 6:30–7:30 a.m. (hotel pickup varies) and 1:30 p.m. from the airport.

INCLUDES: Accommodation with breakfast in Manaus (1 night) and full board at Juma Lodge (3 nights, drinks not included). Transfers Airport–Manaus–Juma Lodge–Airport. Guided excursions per lodge schedule and travel assistance.
