Day 2 – São Miguel Cave, Blue Lake Cave, and Snorkeling in the Sucuri River
São Miguel Cave – The tour begins with an introductory video about the caves, followed by a walk through the treetops of the cerrado on a 200m suspension bridge, and continues with a 150m trail leading to one of the oldest caverns on Earth. This dry cave features a variety of geological formations where untouched nature reveals coral-like shapes and limestone nests.
Duration: 1h30
Blue Lake Cave (Gruta do Lago Azul) – Visit this iconic cave, home to an astonishing deep-blue lake — one of the largest flooded caverns in the world. Both the floor and ceiling display impressive stalactites and stalagmites that captivate tourists and researchers alike. The lake’s water source remains a mystery, though it’s believed to be fed by an underground river. The cave is located approximately 15 km from Bonito.
Duration: 1h30
Snorkeling in the Sucuri River – The experience begins with an electric boat ride of about 1,300m upstream, allowing visitors to observe the local flora and fauna. The return is done by snorkeling downstream, where you’ll see fish and lush underwater vegetation, finishing where the Sucuri River meets the Formoso River. A support boat accompanies the group during the entire tour. Lunch included.
Duration: Half day
Day 3 – Estância Mimosa
After breakfast, depart for Estância Mimosa, a 400-hectare ranch that combines cattle raising — the region’s traditional activity — with rural and ecotourism based on sustainable practices. The tour begins at the farmhouse, where visitors enjoy local snacks and sweets. Then, embark on a pleasant hike through the forest along the Rio Mimoso, passing at least eight waterfalls of various shapes and sizes. Along the way, there are five great spots for swimming in natural pools, as well as small caves and a 6-meter-high platform for those who wish to dive into a natural spring pool. After the hike, a delicious homemade lunch is served on a wood stove, featuring traditional regional dishes and homemade desserts. The attraction is located 24 km from Bonito and lasts 3–4 hours.
Difficulty level: Moderate – long walk with stairs.
Not recommended for visitors with walking difficulties.
Day 4 – Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata and Buraco das Araras
Early morning departure for snorkeling in the crystal-clear blue waters of the Olho D’Água River, which flows into the Rio da Prata. The tour includes a guided interpretive trail through pristine forest filled with century-old trees such as perobas, jatobás, and aroeiras. At the end of the trail, you’ll begin a tranquil float through a vast natural aquarium rich in aquatic life and vegetation. Afterward, enjoy a delicious traditional lunch from Mato Grosso do Sul (included) at the farmhouse. The attraction is located 50 km from Bonito. On the way back, visit Buraco das Araras, a massive sandstone sinkhole 120m deep and 500m wide — a natural habitat for many birds, especially the red macaws.
Difficulty level: Easy.
Day 5 – Bonito – Rio Azul – Pantanal (Aguapé Lodge)
After breakfast, depart for the Pantanal with a stop along the way for the Rio Azul tour.
Rio Azul – The snorkeling begins at the river’s crystal-blue spring, a true natural sanctuary. During the 620m route, visitors can observe several species of fish and rare underwater vegetation, with the opportunity to dive down briefly to experience the sensation of swimming through an underwater forest. At the end of the snorkeling section, continue on a 3 km boat ride along the Salobra River, followed by a 300m walk back to the base area. After changing clothes, continue the land journey with a stop for lunch (not included) before proceeding to the Pantanal. Arrival and check-in at Aguapé Lodge.
Days 6 & 7 – Activities at Aguapé Lodge (Pantanal)
Horseback Riding – One of the highlights at Aguapé Lodge, horseback riding is the best way to experience the Pantanal. Ride through open fields, wetlands, forested patches, and riverbanks, encountering the region’s abundant flora and fauna. The horses are calm, suitable even for beginners. Multiple trails are available, with shorter or longer routes depending on the season (wet or dry), always guided by experienced local guides.
Boat Tour – Explore the Aquidauana River and its lush riverside forest, home to ancient trees, birds, mammals, and reptiles. Enjoy the sounds of nature and bird calls throughout the approximately 2–2.5 hour tour.
Nature Walks – Guided hikes through forest, open fields, and riverside areas offer a closer look at the region’s flora and fauna, essential to the Pantanal ecosystem. There are several trails on the property, lasting between 1.5 and 4 hours.
Photo Safari – Conducted in an open 4×4 vehicle adapted for wildlife viewing, this tour reaches remote areas across different landscapes such as grasslands, cerrado, wetlands, and river channels. It offers wide panoramic views and excellent opportunities to spot local wildlife.
Night Spotlight Safari – Experience the Pantanal after dark. Using a spotlight, guides search for nocturnal animals under the region’s spectacular starry sky, either by vehicle or boat.
Note: Activities are scheduled by the lodge and may be subject to change.
