Days 2 & 3 – Amazon Ecopark Lodge

Included excursions during the stay at Ecopark:

Jungle Walk: Includes countless plant species in the midst of virgin forest, crystal-clear streams, and natural savannas. Various trails allow guests to explore the jungle, observing exotic orchids and giant trees. Accompanied by experienced guides, guests will learn how and where to find edible fruits and potable water, how to navigate among trees and shrubs, information about medicinal plants and insects, and much more. This activity is usually scheduled shortly after breakfast.
Duration: 1 to 3 hours, depending on guests’ health or age.

Meeting of the Waters (Encontro das Águas): Departure from Ecopark at 8:30 am aboard a typical two-deck boat. Navigate down the Rio Negro with views of Manaus: the Amazon Theatre dome, the port, customs, and local life including stilt houses. Arrival at the “Meeting of the Waters” around 11:30 am, where the dark waters of the Rio Negro meet the brown waters of the Rio Solimões. From this point, both rivers form the famous Amazon River, flowing to the Atlantic Ocean. The waters run side by side for approximately 12 km without mixing, due to differences in temperature, density, and flow. The boat trip continues along the Amazon River to Ilha de Terra Nova, where lunch is served at a typical local restaurant (buffet with regional and international dishes). Depending on water levels, a visit to an authentic Caboclo Village may be included (may not occur in May–August when the village can be partially flooded). This visit can be scheduled before or after lunch. During high-water months, the lunch location may be changed to Janauary National Park, and the Caboclo Village visit will not take place. Arrival at the lodge around 5:30 pm.
During the boat ride, guests may occasionally see river dolphins (botos, gray and/or pink).
Duration: Approximately 9 hours

Fishing: Departure from the lodge in a motorized canoe to a nearby location, always accompanied by an experienced guide, to catch local fish such as piranhas or other species. Fishing can take place from the canoe in a quiet igarapé (river channel) or from a floating platform. This is amateur fishing using simple rods, lines, and hooks.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour

Monkey Forest (Floresta dos Macacos): The Wildlife Rehabilitation and Reintroduction Center, created in 1991, receives animals confiscated from illegal trade. Animals are initially quarantined and treated by veterinarians and biologists. In partnership with the FFV (Fundação Floresta Viva), supported by Amazon Ecopark Lodge, a feeding program was established. Twice daily (10:30 am and 3:30 pm), animals receive supplements from forest resources for a healthy diet. Visitors can observe, photograph, and film the animals in a safe, natural environment. Adoption options are available at www.ffv.org.br.

Night Tour with Spotlighting: Depart the lodge in canoes (motorized or not), accompanied by an experienced guide, to enjoy the jungle at night and spotlight small caimans or other nocturnal animals. When the caiman is illuminated, its eyes glow red, allowing the guide to locate it and briefly handle it for explanation before returning it safely to the river.
Duration: 1 hour
Note: During the high-water season (April–August) and full moon nights, locating caimans is more difficult.

Visit to a Caboclo House: Depart the lodge by motorized canoe with a local guide to learn about the customs and traditions of riverside inhabitants (Caboclos – mixed indigenous and European descent). Visit a traditional Caboclo house, observe daily life, cassava cultivation, flour production, rubber smoking process, medicinal herbs, and local stories.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour
