The perfect travel experience to discover one of Brazil’s most beautiful destinations: navigate the famous Amazon rivers, explore pristine beaches, visit riverside villages and communities, and enjoy all the comfort of the KAIARA vessels.
Day 1 – Departure / Santarém – Alter do Chão
Reception at Santarém Airport and transfer to Alter do Chão (approximately a 40-minute drive). Alter do Chão will be the starting point of our navigation, with boarding from 3:00 pm. After accommodation, presentation of the boat and safety procedures, followed by a baptism with a first swim in the Tapajós River. Free time for swimming. You can also explore one of the friendliest villages in the Amazon, featuring charming riverside restaurants, a central square, and shops selling indigenous crafts. Dinner on board is included.
Day 2 – Tapajós National Forest
After breakfast, we disembark at the Tapajós National Forest (FLONA), an important conservation unit covering over 500,000 hectares. We will dock in front of the Jamaraquá Community. If the group is up for it, we will take a long trail through primary forest to reach the famous giant Samaúma tree and satisfy the adventurous spirit in one of the Amazon’s most beautiful igarapés (small rivers). This centuries-old giant, considered the “grandmother of the forest,” is extremely generous. Its long branches and dense canopy shelter numerous plant and animal species, including birds. The trail can be shortened according to the group’s preference. Return for lunch on board. Afternoon at leisure for swimming in the Tapajós River. The recommended activity for the evening is to go up to the deck to enjoy the stars and the sounds of the Amazon forest.
Day 3 – Jari Channel and Coroca Community
We wake up in the Jari Channel, a small branch of the great Amazon River, to observe its diverse wildlife. One of the greatest spectacles is the Amazonian sunrise – listening to the symphony of birds in this precious environment is a moment reserved for few adventurers. We then head to the black waters of the Arapiuns River, with its stunning forest and white-sand beach scenery. Prepare your camera – pink river dolphins (botos) may appear along the way. In the late afternoon, we visit the Coroca Community, an important village in the region. Here, we will see the turtle lake and the hatchery from the local conservation project, and stop by a beautiful artisan shop offering high-quality handmade crafts. This is a true lesson in the importance of sustainable tourism for preserving wildlife, flora, and the livelihoods of the forest communities. After the excursion, a special dinner prepared by the crew with the best of Pará cuisine will be served on board.
Day 4 – São Marcos Community
After breakfast, we visit a typical cassava flour house in the São Marcos Community to observe the process of producing cassava derivatives – essential foods for the forest people. Return to relax and enjoy the beach. The crew will be ready to prepare caipirinhas with local fruits, serve traditional snacks, or hang a hammock in the shade. To celebrate the last night of the trip, we prepare a special beach dinner featuring the traditional Piracaia: grilled fish over charcoal.
Day 5 – Tapajós River – Disembarkation in Alter do Chão / Departure
On the last day, wake up on the green waters of the Tapajós River, with a stop for a final farewell swim. Return to Alter do Chão for disembarkation. The team will transfer the group to Santarém Airport, keeping in mind that most passengers usually depart on flights around noon.
